Before Prohibition outlawed the sale of alcohol, Tennessee was one of the leading states in the country for grape production. Today, grape production in the state is on the rise, and Frederick and Rhonda Moody’s expansive family farm provides a wide range of microclimates, elevations, exposures and soil types, resulting in truly distinctive wines. The Moodys also have a beef cattle operation along with other livestock and a large apiary. They produce Sawbriar Honey and occasionally wild berry jams, jellies, and traditional country hams. Frederick and Rhonda bought the winery from his aunt and uncle, Gertie and Butch Campbell, who had owned the winery for 17 years. It was important to Gertie and Butch that a family member carried on with the winery once they retired.

Holly Ridge Winery is a small, family-owned boutique winery. Since 1998, we have been producing a variety of wines from cultivars grown onsite, as well as those purchased from other growers.

We are located on the Historic Downtown Square next to the Jack Daniels Distillery. Enjoy a beautiful drive through our rolling hills and hollows as you come and visit. There is plenty of parking on the square and parking at the distillery is only a one block walk to the Winery. Come and visit Monday-Saturday 10 to 5:30 or Sunday 1-5.

Traminette grapes produce an amazingly floral white wine. It is a French-American hybrid — a cross between another French-American hybrid and Gewürztraminer, so it grows well here but still retains a lot of the fruity floral aromas and flavors of Gewürztraminer. It is planted on a vertical shoot positioning trellis system using 10 foot poles so that there is a lot of room for vine growth.

In The Summer of 1997, 2 brothers expressed their passion for the county they loved.  The people and soil of northern Tennessee gave this love a foundation on which dreams were built: One of Agriculture, on estate vineyards, the other, a winery, with distinctive character.

Judy and Tim purchased the Lewis County property in 2003 with the intention of building and opening a christian retreat center. As things worked out the retreat center did not happen and a beautiful vineyard and winery developed. The first vines, Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc, were planted in 2005. For the next 3 years, several thousand more vines were planted as the vineyard expanded.

In 2005, we decided that the family farm needed to stay the family farm and not be developed into a subdivision. As for farming, we wanted to grow something we loved. We love wine and wine grapes. So like the madman cited by Dali, we planted a vineyard. In 2015, we opened our small boutique winery.  

Ruggero, Lisa Ciarrochhi and their daughter Diana Gunderson founded Paris Winery in April 2008. They saw the rolling hillsides of Tennessee and were reminded of Tuscany, inspiring them to buy a piece of land big enough to support their dreams of owning their own vineyard. They started with 5,500 vines to make their own personal wine. Today, they have over 9,000 vines, 23 types of grapes, and 31 flavors of wine to share with the wine lovers. We offer daily wine tasting events at our Venetian-style locations, as well as “Concert in the Vineyards,” our summer concert series. Visit our vineyards at our Paris location to stroll through our grapevines or visit our Chattanooga and Cookeville locations for the best in locally-made wine.

In February, John Harding purchased a well-watered, 250-acre tract of land on the east side of Richland Creek, seven miles from Nashville. He likely saw it many times as he passed back and forth to Nashville from his father’s home on the Harpeth/Natchez Road. The property had been a part of a 640-acre preemption grant made by the state of North Carolina to Daniel Dunham in 1786. John Harding brought three enslaved individuals to the property: Ben, who was purchased in Richmond, Virginia in 1806; Dicey, who was purchased from his father; and Patrick, who he inherited in 1810 when his father died.

Arrington Vineyards opened its door July 1, 2007. From the beginning we have been striving to provide a “wine country experience” with award-winning wines set in the rolling hills of middle Tennessee owned by country music legend Kix Brooks, master vintner Kip Summers, and Nashville businessman John Russell. Our vineyards were originally established in 2003 when Kip Summers and a fellow wine enthusiast purchased a 25 acre hog farm. In 2004, Kix Brooks purchased the farm adjacent to the original vineyards which included the farmhouse that would be repurposed for our tasting room and first retail space.

Located on the banks of the Little Pigeon River in the Apple Barn Village, the Apple Barn Winery is next door to the world-famous Apple Barn General Store & Cider Mill, two great restaurants, a bakery, a candy store, an ice cream shop, and a Christmas shop. The Apple Barn Winery offers a unique twist on wine. Their wine is hand crafted in small lots on the farm to provide each customer the best possible wine from local fruit. Open daily for tasting and sales, the family oriented staff would love for you to stop by.

Our family was raised on this property along Goodwater Rd. Doctors Michael and Carol Hood had two children, Laura and Matthew. Michael and Carol had always loved fine wines and found the idea of a having a vineyard to be romantic. In 2004 Michael, his son Matthew, brother-in-law Steve, and neighbor Ron Moorfield planted the first two vineyards. They quickly learned that grapevines are possibly the most labor intensive crops. Michael and Carol happily invited their daughter Laura back home from Japan to help manage the farm. She fell in love with her future winemaker Gene Poland, who would help the family plan their future winery. After much trial and error, they ended up with around 30 acres of native muscadines and a few varieties of french hybrid grapes.

Northfield Vineyards is a family owned winery tucked back in the hills of White County, Tennessee. The farm on which the winery and vineyard sits has been in the Ray family since 1904 and proudly grows not only grapes but hosts the stars of Northfield Vineyards, Burt and Rube. Two Percheron bred draft mules who are the inspiration for the wine label and fun around the farm. They can be seen lounging in the field or being worked to a wagon by their owner, Mark Ray and his trusty dog, Bo. We welcome everyone to come out and visit the winery to enjoy the beauty in the grapevines and out at the barn.
