In 1976, the first vineyards were planted at Amalthea Cellars. Founder Louis Caracciolo’s infatuation with winemaking began as a young boy making wine in the cellar of his Italian immigrant grandfather. Emilio brought the art from “The Old Country” at the age of thirteen to the southern New Jersey town of Blue Anchor at the turn of the century. Being exposed to the charm of winemaking at an early age ignited a passion that continues to this day at Amalthea Cellars. The winery was started by the Hayes family in conjunction with Rutger’s Agricultural Co-op in 1989. The first test plot of Cabernet Sauvignon was planted that year at the Townbank Vineyard. After a few years of pruning, maturing, and patiently waiting- the first bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon was released in 1996. Today, the winery continues to grow and produce some of South Jersey’s finest wines! In 2003, Bill Hayes sold the winery to our current owners- the Craig Family. Toby Craig and his daughter Betsy Sole have worked over the years to create a special vibe and atmosphere at the winery. When the Craigs took over, they hired winemaker Darren Hesington who worked as head winemaker for 16 years. While Darren has moved on from Cape May Winery, he will remain a pillar of our winemaking process. Alfred Natali is the winemaker, viticulturalist and founder of Natali Vineyards. Before becoming a winemaker, Al taught European History at the City University of New York and then worked on Wall Street as a network engineer. He retired from his “day job” in 2000 and began taking courses in viticulture and wine chemistry at UC Davis in California and Cornell University at Geneva Station in New York. He purchased a 22 acre horse farm in 2000 and planted the first vines the following year. To date, Al has planted about 7,000 vines consisting of 15 different varieties. In a good year the vineyard will produce about 20 tons of fruit. All of the winemaking practices and methods at Natali Vineyards might be described as “Old World”, meaning the canopy is managed by hand, harvest is by hand and the bottling is done by hand, one bottle at a time. Sky Acres Winery is an award winning winery, it was named NJ winery of the year 2019 and 2018 by NYIW competition. Sky Acres Winery is located in 50 acres of pristine woodlands and pasture in Bedminster New Jersey. The name of the winery comes from the long time interest in aviation and the logo represents our red Waco YMF5 biplane that both the owners fly. The winery and vineyard is primarily used for research into new and more sustainable ways to make wine. Better quality wine with minimal water usage and minimal environmental impact is the goal. It is a test site to evaluate the patented GOfermentor® winemaking machine, SmartBarrel® aging system, and a home wine making system the GOfermentor Jr®. We are proud of our goal to support you in your efforts to Eat-Drink-Local. Established by the Thomas Revell family in 1690, this farm was originally called Boythorpe Plantation. The estate is nestled on 62 acres of picturesque farmland. Brook Hollow winery is a family farm winery overlooking the Delaware Water Gap in Warren County New Jersey. The winery was started in 2006 by owner and winemaker Paul Ritter, his wife Debbie and three daughters Stefanie, Alyssa and Jessica. What started as a hobby in the basement and a few grapevines in the front yard quickly grew to over 2000 grapevines at his home. The hobby became a passion for Paul and just prior to retiring as a wildlife biologist, for 30 years, the family opened a small weekend winery at Brook Hollow Farm in Knowlton Township NJ. In a very short period, their winery following outgrew the small tasting room at the farm and a 10-acre farm field was purchased and 7000 new vines planted. We use oak barrels and minimal chemical or mechanical intervention. Artful blending promotes optimal flavors, aroma, and finish. Pam and Gary Mount started Terhune Orchards in 1975 after buying the home farm of 55 acres on Cold Soil Road. In 2004, Terhune Orchards expanded with the purchase of the 67 acre permantly preserved “Johnson Farm” on Van Kirk Road. These open fields, once cleaned up and rejuvenated, presented lots of possibilities for new directions for Terhune Orchards. Daughter Tannwen returned to the family farm full time after 6 years in San Francisco, enthusiastic about the idea of a vineyard and winery. In 2006, Gary and Tannwen planted five acres of grapes. We planted 12 varieties to see what would grow well in our climate, with the largest amounts in Chamborcin, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Traminette. After four years of loving care, the first crop of grapes were harvested in 2009. William Heritage Winery is a family owned and operated estate vineyard and winery located in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. Mullica Hill is located in the heart of the Outer Coastal Plain American Viticultural Area (AVA), which covers over 2.25 million acres in Southeastern New Jersey. Their story begins on a fruit and vegetable farm filled with peaches, nectarines, strawberries, watermelon, sweet corn, cantaloupes and more. In 2004, Ed began growing grapes, and the transformation began shortly after. The farm was put in Farmland Preservation, which funded the building and necessary equipment to build a winery. Within just two years, the winery was bursting at the seams, which prompted the addition of a new production room. What was once simply a farm has evolved into 8 acres of grapes, several acres of soybeans, and a rustic winery filled with family and friends.
