Welcome to Blacksnake Meadery, Carroll County’s first winery and Southwest Virginia’s only meadery. We are a family-owned-and-operated business in the beautiful southern Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. Our desire to live more closely with nature and our love of all things fermented have resulted in the establishment of our meadery. Blacksnake Meadery’s closeness with nature began with negotiations with the original reptilian inhabitants (and namesakes) of the meadery. It has since expanded to the introduction of an ever-growing population of honeybees.

Fogline Vineyards is both a winery and a concept. Launched in 2009, we make small lots of Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah, and Chardonnay. Our home vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, at the top of Sonoma Mountain. This area of the Sonoma Coast is known as the Petaluma Gap, noteworthy for the wind and fog that blows in through a gap in the coastal hills. These conditions create a distinct environment needed to grow world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

After reading an article on grape production in the Iowa State “Vision” Alumni magazine, Darrell began planting grapes in 2008 on his Mother’s farm with the help of his brother and both their families. While Darrell honed his skills at winemaking through classes and experience, the grape harvest was sold to local wineries. After making the commute from Louisville, Kentucky, for five years, their family moved to central Illinois in 2012 to move forward on the winery.

Wine is a close second. For over 15 years, along with our partners, we poured our heart, soul and passion into building the Row Eleven and The Riddler wine brands, while raising our four daughters. Then, late in 2019, with the moral support of our daughters and sons in law, we made the leap to make these brands our very own under the auspices of our company, Whisper Wines.

One of seven wineries on the Wine Trail of West Tennessee, De Terra Vineyards and Wines of Somerville is a stop in between Memphis and Jackson in Somerville, Tennessee, it sits on 34 acres of land, nestled between a beautiful country farm house and neat rows of grape vines. De Terra is a new vineyard; the people behind the winery, owners Jerry and Teresa Pentz, opened their doors in October of 2014, but the winery had been an idea 10 years in the making.

At its core, a glass of wine should taste great. It should be true to the grape and true to the land. We’ve been making wine this way in California since 1968. Fifty years later, there’s still a delicious bottle of Fetzer to reach for on any given Tuesday night. These are wines that never compromise on flavor, never cut corners on quality. Great taste, pure and simple.

Deux Amis { duh zah me }, French for “two friends”, was a partnership between two friends, Phyllis Zouzounis and Jim Penpraze. Working together in the wine industry with many a late night relaxing over a glass of Zinfandel after a long day on the crush pad, found the two friends envisioning their own winery. The dream became a reality with the 1987 harvest. That year, Deux Amis produced one hundred cases of Zinfandel from one vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley. Today, after 26 years of working together as friends, Jim retires and Phyllis continues to make the dream come true. Phyllis is making the wines in the same tradition, using the same vineyards, working with the owners and growers to produce the great wines of Deux Amis. The truth is great wines start in the vineyard and this is Phyllis’ belief and philosophy also. She has great relationships with her growers created from a handshake and long-term commitments.

The debut vintage of this wine captures all the great reasons to produce Cabernet Franc. The dark ruby-red color sets this wine apart and immediately tells you it is a pure example of the varietal. Fragrant aromas of sweet tobacco and cedar smoke combine with elements of dried rose petal, blackberry and truffles inform the first impressions. There is wonderful richness and depth to the palate where ripe blackberry and spicy clove flavors are lifted by touches of black licorice and star anise.

When you visit the Long Island Wine Region, you share in the pride that we have for our people, our land and the culture that make us unique. A visit to the East End demonstrates the close, seasonal connection between land and table as wonderful local products are picked, harvested or produced daily and displayed at the height of ripeness, perfectly complimenting our wines. Alex and Louisa Hargrave planted the first Long Island vineyard in 1973 in the town of Cutchogue, N.Y. They were followed by a group of pioneering investors, grape growers and winemakers with extraordinarily diverse backgrounds from all over the world. Their shared vision and experience in traditional winemaking practices created a rich, yet unique, culture that began to catch the attention of wine experts from all around the word. Now, more than forty years later, the region has grown into one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in the country.

Lindon Wines is a small family owned Iowa winery, located just outside of Burlington, Iowa. All our wines are produced from grapes grown in our own vineyard. It was started and is owned and operated by Don & Linda McCabe. Growing as a business from Don’s passion for agriculture and enology (the study of wines). Don grew up on a farm near Mt. Pleasant, IA, and was the founder of the winery. His love of fine wines, knowledge of chemistry and self-taught knowledge of wine making, along with many courses taken mostly through the Enology Department at Iowa State University, formed a solid base for his wine making. Don and his brother, Dennis McCabe, PhD, combined their work ethic and passion for new projects to expand Lindon Wines into a beautiful and thriving vineyard, the original production room, and the recent addition of a custom built 12-sided tasting room affectionately called “The Green Dragon.” Throughout the entire journey Don has been able to count on his brother for help and encouragement.

Naylor Wine Cellars was officially founded 41 years ago, in 1978, by Richard and Audrey Naylor. Winemaking started as a hobby of Mr. Naylor’s in the late 60’s. His interest in winemaking progressed and Richard and Audrey traveled all over the world visiting wineries and talking to the winemakers about their methods, and how to start their own winery in Pennsylvania. This wine knowledge has helped them throughout the decades as they built their Pennsylvania winery.

Stargazers Vineyard was originally founded By John and Alice Weygandt, in 1979, and the winery was opened in 1993. Fast forward to March 2019, Michael Vorauer and Jason Kirkpatrick, took over operations of the Vineyard and Winery, and the tasting room in Lititz PA. They met the owner in one of those, paths crossing at the right time moments in life. So a gentleman’s handshake, set in to motion, the path toward working out financing. Much work and endeavor went in to the operations over the summer in to fall. Managing the vineyard and tasting room were just a few of the jobs at the winery. Again in just in perfect timing, towards the end of the summer, Michael and Jason met up with the SBDC. From that point they paired with a lender, who was very willing to help them with the purchase.

For Eric, winemaking has become his passion and believes it is the perfect blending of art and science. Though the winemaking process is very similar year to year, every vintage is different and has it’s own characteristics and challenges. He enjoys watching the wines develop throughout the year from angular and one dimensional to plush and broad flavored and only gently guiding them through the process.

We wish the new owners well and hope they get as much joy from the place, the neighbours, and the industry as we did.

was established in 2000 when our passionate journey of winemaking in Paso Robles began. Our desire has always been to create exquisite small lots of handcrafted wines. Red Poets is dedicated to creative blends, and Skyhawk Lane is dedicated to our individual varietals of wine. Great wines always begin in the vineyards. Each vineyard that we work with is carefully selected. The importance of the micro-climate within each vineyard cannot be overstated. Careful cropping, and stressing of the vines all come into the equation. The same meticulous attention to detail is then applied to our winemaking techniques. Our handcrafted wines display our winemaking signature with each bottle that we produce.

As a native of Bernkastel, Germany who emigrated to the Finger Lakes in the 1960s, Hermann J. Wiemer was uniquely qualified to help establish and create a wine region now known for its Riesling identity. His mother’s family had been making wine in Germany’s Mosel Valley for more than 300 years. His father, a skilled nurseryman, had been in charge of the Agricultural Experiment Station in Bernkastel and was responsible for restoring vines in the Mosel region after WWII. As a result, he recognized the importance of grafting vinifera on American rootstock. Ultimately, this conviction led Hermann’s father to convince Dr. Thanisch – who maintained the most famous Riesling vineyard in the world – to graft Mosel Rieslings onto American rootstock. In 2003, Hermann’s long-term apprentice Fred Merwarth took charge of winemaking and vineyard management. Fred’s talent and ambition brought fresh energy and vision to the winery, placing it on a new trajectory. In 2007, Hermann officially retired, handing over the winery to Fred, who partnered with his university friend, Swedish agronomist Oskar Bynke, to carry on Hermann’s legacy.

Through the years the farm was home to the extended Kalb family— Janet and George and their children Kurt, Karen, and Rob and George’s parents John and Marie. There were once over 70 sheep on the property as well as an assortment of other pets and farm animals— dogs, cats, chickens, geese, and even a steer named Junior.

Though drinkability is rather subjective and depends greatly upon one’s own palate, we’ve provided a chart which illustrates the drinkability and aging potential of our vintage Pinot Noir. The longevity of a wine can vary by vintage and may hold up many years longer than the range provided. Storage conditions also play a role in the aging potential of a wine. The ideal storage conditions for our vintage Pinot Noir is a bunker located deep beneath the earth’s crust.

That was true when we opened in 2005 and that is true today. We don’t focus on awards and accolades (though we do have lots of those). We focus on making damn good wine to celebrate real-life moments. We’re all about drinking wine in our neighbor’s kitchen on a Tuesday night, sharing small updates, big reveals and laughing until wine comes out of our noses. Join us at our tasting rooms in Hood River, Bend, and Seaside, Oregon, or sister tasting room in South Dakota. In Fall 2020, we will be opening a wine bar in Vancouver, Washington. We also sell wine nationwide and love to call our wine members our best friends.

Armed with determination and a dream reminiscent of many Florida pioneers, the Shook family started development of our unique wines in 1991. Realizing the importance of striving for exceptional quality, our Florida winery opened its doors in September of 1997 – only after the secrets of making exceptional wine from fruit other than grapes had been discovered. Producing Florida’s only ultra-premium tropical, citrus and berry wines, this FL wine distributor and authentic Florida Farm Winery is proud to say that our tropical, berry and citrus wines are the only Florida wines allowed to display the Florida Department of Citrus’ official mark of superior quality – the Florida Sunshine Tree. They are also the only Florida wine ever allowed at Disney’s Epcot International Food and Wine Festival held each year beginning in October.

Jack Rabbit Hill Farm makes wines that naturally express the farm’s mountain terroir. Our secret is clean, low-input farming and cellar practices. The only inputs: 1st-use irrigation water (snowmelt), biodynamic compost preparations (compost teas made from fermented plant and animal materials), hormone- and antibiotic-free horse and cow manure compost, cover crop seed, and organic sulphur. The farm and production facilities are certified organic and certified biodynamic. Grapes are hand-picked and bask in long, slow, warm-but-not-hot fermentations, thanks to native yeasts, those naturally present on the grapes and in the cellar. No commercial yeasts or other additives used. Fermentations complete in 5-6 months usually, giving the formative wines time to develop their aromas, flavors and weight. White wines are aged sur lees in stainless vats. Reds are aged in neutral french oak barrels for 18-20 months.

Crowley Wines was founded in 2005 with a focus on transparent, terroir-driven winemaking. Starting at the source, we favour older clones of Chardonnay and the classic Wadenswil and Pommard Pinot noir clones due to their late-ripening nature and acid retention. We work with family-owned vineyards and prefer cooler, high elevation sites. Our friends and growers are committed to non-irrigated and low impact farming. We are members of the Deep Roots Coalition and our primary vineyard sources are LIVE certified or certified organic. In the winery, our highest priority is to create the most direct evidence of both vintage and place while making elegant and exciting wines. This means (wine geek alert!) minimal acid additions, no extraction enzyme, employing native yeasts, extended ageing in mostly neutral oak and minimal fining or filtration. We value purity of expression over-stylized wines and hold essential the belief that we cannot improve on nature. We make our wines in the tradition of Burgundy and our Oregon forefathers. That means minimal intervention, yet maximum attention to detail. Wine is made in the vineyard and our experience working them helps us understand that even when you prune, shoot thin and leaf-pull a vineyard to perfection, Mother Nature […]

Armstrong Apples is a small farm located between Fond du Lac and Plymouth. We started with 2 types of apple varieties 25 years ago the honeycrisp and jonagold. Who knew they would be so popular. Each year we planted more until we reached 11 varieties. To provide the best type of apples we take out those that are less popular or have limited flavor or retention characteristics and plant new varieties each year that are considered superior in flavor, retention and market demand.

There is probably no other wine grape variety that better reflects the place from which it comes than Cabernet Sauvignon. Soil, geographic orientation and climate all contribute to a vineyards “terroir,” and the Cabernet Sauvignon grape provides the perfect structure upon which these distinct characteristics can emerge. The geographical location and terrain of Coombsville has unique microclimates which provide a long growing season where grapes develop a superb range of flavors with extended hang time. The Cabs from this area tend to lean more toward Bordeaux style wines than the rest of the valley. Le Chanceux is family owned and operated with a small production of approximately 200 cases annually. Every vintage is unique and carefully nurtured along on the vines until optimum quality is reached. Our small batches are hand crafted with minimal intervention and maximum attention and are aged in French oak barrels.
